ORNAMENTAL WALL
2015
Plaster cornices from the Edwardian and Victorian period and the Arts and Crafts movement.
Ornamental Wall is built by an assemblage which juxtapose and confront cornices from the imperial Edwardian and Victorian style, a style and aesthetic belonging to the strongest industrial development period in english history with cornices from the anti-industrial Arts and Crafts movement.
The corniches have suprisingly similar aesthetics while originating from opposite political ideologies. However, the aesthetics, of these cornices ornamenting the english imperial buildings, play yet another political role in the urban landscape of Derry.
At the CCA Derry the wall was installed obstructing the access to the windows facing the street. This placement closed of the insight and outlook of the art center from the street and the outdoors.
